One of the great ironies of history is that the Muslim conquest of Constantinople led to the discovery and colonisation of North America which in turn led to the founding of Islam's nemesis, the united States.
If Constantinople had not fallen the European trade routes to China and other eastern markets would have remained open and Europe would not have needed to find alternate routes to the east. The search for alternate routes led to the 'discovery' of America.
